NMR in microbial glycobiology

Join us at the mini-symposium on NMR in microbial glycobiology, which will be held on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at 10:00 a.m at the Jozef Stefan Institute, in the main Institute lecture hall, Jamova cesta 39, Ljubljana. We organize this event together with prof. Anja Klančnik from Biotehnical Faculty.

Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) is a powerful technique for structural analysis of biomolecules. It has also proven to be extremely valuable for studies in microbial glycobiology, especially since microbes continue to surprise us with the variability and diversity of their glycan structures. The use of NMR spectroscopy to determine primary structure of polysaccharides and their molecular interactions with small molecules will be presented by Prof. Paola Cescutti and Dr. Barbara Bellich from the Universita degli studi di trieste. Then Mojca Kranjc from Biotechnical Faculty will present important aspects of purification procedures of microbial polysaccharides, followed by a broader overview of the applicability of NMR for the analysis of biomacromolecules by Dr Primož Šket from the Slovenian NMR Centre.
