Targeting of fluorescent Lactococcus lactis to colorectal cancer cells

A paper »Targeting of fluorescent Lactococcus lactis to colorectal cancer cells through surface display of tumour-antigen binding proteins« was published in Microbial Biotechnology by members of the department Tina Vida Plavec, Ana Mitrović, Milica Perišić Nanut, Borut Štrukelj, Janko Kos and Aleš Berlec. Safe multifunctional cancer cell targeting bacteria Lactococcus lactis were developed to target EpCAM and HER2 tumor antigens, typically expressed on colorectal cancer cells. Through surface-displayed proteins directed against tumor antigens bacteria were able to specifically bind to tested human cell lines in static conditions and in constant flow.
